"This was an endless forward-backward process. Each version from the composer Ferran gave us new ideas and the longer we worked on it, the more obvious it became, that we will have to loose our initial idea of a very minimalist sound design, which was based very much on the score only. We added more and more and ended up with having a regular foley-artist session, that we wanted to avoid initially due to a low budget.
Jonáš did not had a sound engineer on the set, so I had to rebuild every piece of sound from the scratch. This took us much longer, than I thought, but now the sound design and mix is where I wanted it to be," explains Čech.
The composer Ferran Cruixent sent his score online to the FTP server of Soundsquare, where the music was merged with the progressing sound design.
"This is my third short movie I am doing with Jonas, and he really gave me a hard time. He forced me to recompose a certain passage about 4 times, until it matched his idea perfectly. It was a lot easier with him when he was less experienced," smiles Cruixent.
"Being forced to discuss everything only over the phone, created some misunderstandings, but we had no other choice. In the end we agreed on a wonderful score and I am very happy with the result. I hope Jonáš will be able to produce the music with an orchestra. The actual generated midi-music is not the top of the line, which I would love to achieve," adds Cruixent.
The mixing is in Dolby Digital™, made for the needs of the DVD. It is prepared to be remixed in the THX™ sound stage of Studio Virtual, when the recordings of the score will be finished.
The design of the cover and label of the DVD was made by Aleš Mička, who also designs the poster and the web page along with the visuals in the final credits of Monitio.
Two DVD's has been sent to the Festival of Cannes and to Director's Fortnight. A screening on these prestige festival would be a huge honor, now there is nothing more to do than wait for the jury's decision.
